Enefit Green and Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation have decided to end their cooperation in the development of the Liivi Bay offshore wind farm in Estonia. The decision was made after a thorough assessment of the market and regulatory situation, concluding that there is currently insufficient clarity regarding long-term support mechanisms, such as Contracts for Difference (CfDs), which are necessary to secure investments of several billion euros.
Despite close cooperation and preparatory work to date, Enefit Green acknowledged that without a predictable policy, it is not possible to continue the project with the same intensity. However, the company will complete the permit and environmental impact assessment process in order to keep the option open for future implementation of the project.
The planned Liivi Bay wind farm was to install 140 turbines with a total capacity of up to 2010 MW. The project area is located in the Gulf of Riga, 11 km from Kihnu Island and 16 km from Häädemeeste.
